Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
Be the brand AI cites - not the result it skips.
Search has split in two. People still type into Google, but now they also ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity - and Google’s own AI Overviews answer many questions before anyone clicks a link. Pew Research measured it: when an AI summary appears on a Google results page, users click a traditional result about half as often. Generative Engine Optimization is the work of making sure that when AI answers a question in your market, your business is part of the answer.
What GEO actually is
AI assistants don’t invent recommendations. They pull from what they can find, read, and trust - live search indexes, the pages behind them, and the brand mentions absorbed into their training data. A typical AI answer cites only a handful of sources, so the question is whether you’re one of them.
Ranking still helps, but it’s no longer the whole game. In Ahrefs’ 2026 analysis of four million AI Overview citations, only 38% of cited pages ranked in Google’s top 10 for the query - down from 76% a year earlier. AI engines increasingly split one question into many related searches and pick sources across all of them. GEO is the discipline of earning your place in that wider net: your site, your presence beyond your site, and the way your expertise is written down.
GEO doesn’t replace SEO - and it isn’t only about Google
GEO is built on top of SEO, not instead of it. But each AI engine grounds its answers in a different index: Google’s AI Overviews and Gemini draw on Google; ChatGPT leans heavily on Bing - Seer Interactive found 87% of its search citations match Bing’s top results; Perplexity runs its own crawler. A site that search engines can’t crawl and index is invisible to all of them. That’s why we build your foundations for Google and Bing together - most agencies still ignore the Bing side entirely.
What’s included
A note on schema markup: we implement it as part of your technical foundations because it makes your pages machine-readable - but Google has said structured data by itself doesn’t buy visibility in AI answers. Anyone selling you “GEO schema” as the magic lever is selling last year’s playbook.

Who this is for
GEO makes the most sense for businesses whose customers research before they buy - local services, professional services, healthcare, e-commerce, real estate - where “what’s the best X near me” is increasingly answered by an AI instead of ten blue links. And the field is more open than it looks: in the same 75,000-brand study, a quarter of brands had no AI visibility at all. In most local and mid-market categories, the work hasn’t been done yet - early, consistent effort compounds.
What we won’t promise
No one - including the platforms themselves - fully controls what an AI engine cites, and every factor above is a measured correlation, not a guarantee; the researchers say so themselves. Anyone guaranteeing you a spot in ChatGPT’s answers is selling something they can’t deliver. What we can do is systematically improve every factor the research supports, measure your visibility every week, and show you the movement honestly. That’s the same standard we apply to our own site, and we document what works and what doesn’t.
